The Assam State Biodiversity Board invites applications from interested post-graduate students in Life Sciences (preferably fresh pass out) for short term engagement under 9th batch of 'Biodiversity Research Associate Programme (BRAP) Fellowship' for the following works:

1. For assisting selected Biodiversity Management Committees (BMC) of Assam in preparation of their People's Biodiversity Registers (pBR).
a. Vacancy: 20 Fellows
b. Desirable qualifications: M.Sc in Life Sciences, preferably Botany and Zoology specialization
c. Duration of engagement: 3 months (Anytime from l5th March 19 to l5th September 19)
d. Fellowship: Stipend of Rs 8000 per month + Rs 21,000/- contingency for 3 months towards field visits, documentations etc)

2, For updating Digital People's Biodiversity Registers of Assam
a. Vacancy: 4 Fellows
b. Desirable qualifications: M.Sc in Botany (preferably with Taxonomy specialization)
c. Duration of engagement: 3 months (tentatively from 15thMarch I 9 to 14th June 19)
d. Fellowship: Rs 15000 per month (Fixed)

Advertisement for ‘Biodiversity Research Associate Program Fellowship’s for Assam

Applications in the Prescribed Format are invited from interested post graduate students in Life Sciences (preferably fresh pass out) for the 9th batch of Biodiversity Research Associate program Fellowships (BRAP-Fellowships) for assisting selected Biodiversity Management Committees of Assam in preparation of their People's Biodiversity Registers. The duration of programme shall be for a period of 3 months.

The Assam State Biodiversity Board works for promotion of conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity. The biodiversity includes all kinds of life forms such as, plants and animals found in the forests, variety of agricultural crops, fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, birds, fishes, and insects. The Biological Diversity Act, 2002 empowers local people to own and manage their biological resources. This is attempted by organizing people into Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) which are required to document commonly used biological resources and associated Traditional Knowledge in the form of peoples Biodiversity Registers (PBRs). By making such Registers the people become the rightful owners of their biological resources.

l. Objective of the Programme: To inculcate scientific temper amongst young talent in the state of Assam and promote them to work for conservation of biodiversity. This program would enhance the understanding of the Fellows about the present day challenges in promoting conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and provide them opportunity to contribute in meeting those challenges. The Fellow would be required to assist at least one Biodiversity Management Commiuee (BMC) in preparing its Peoples' Biodiversity Register (PBR).

2.Duration of Engagement: 3 months (Anytime from l5ftMarch 19to 15ft September 19).

3. Area of Work: The Selected Candidates shall be required to work with one BMC of his/trer choice given at Annexure- 1.

*The candidates shall have to give the names of three (3) BMCs where they want to work in order of their preferences.

*The Board reserves the right to allot any BMC to the Selected Candidates, beyond their selected options.

4. Fellowships:
i. Rs 8,000 pm + total contingency of Rs 21,000/- for 3 months towards field visits, documentation etc.)

The fellowship is being offered for: Assisting one (1) BMC in preparation of Peoples' Biodiversity Registers (PBR)

This work involves field visits to remote areas and interacting with the villagers and the members of the Biodiversity Management Committees for documenting the commonly used plants and animals. The document shall be prepared in both English & Local I e and shall have to update the information in the PBR digital database.

5. Desirable quantifications: We are looking for post-graduate students in Life Sciences (Preferably fresh pass outs with Botany and Zoology as specialization) having fair knowledge of identification of local plants and animals, their scientific names, common uses etc. The candidates must have ability to interact with communities and take records in local language. Good computer skills (Word/Excel) are essential.

Those who are currently enrooted for Post Graduate Courses (Final semester having only Dissertation works) may also apply through their Head of Department.

6. Age: Minimum age is 20 years, but not above 30 years.

7. Total Intake: 20 Fellows

8. Experience Certificate: On successful completion of the Fellowship duration and acceptance of the PBR document, an experience certificate will be issued, which will be ranked 6 A, B and C- grade based on the PBR document.

9. Orientation Training: The selected Fellows shall be given a one week orientation training on BD Act, PRA exercise, how to do data entry in the prescribed PBR format and the database, identification of plants, traditional knowledge etc. The BRAP Fellows shall report to "Coordinator" assigned by the Board.

10. Selection Procedure: Application shall be examined by the Board and shortlisted candidates may be called for personal interaction and aptitude assessment.

11. The performance of the selected candidates shall be reviewed by the Board periodically and in the event of 'non- satisfactory' performance, the Board shall have the right to terminate the Fellowship.
